About SMA-UKSearch marketing is one of the newest, most dynamic and fastest growing industries. Professional standards of behaviour, codes of conduct, training, and qualifications have not yet been developed. Click here to see our constitutionThe Search Marketing Association UK was formed by a group of search marketers who gathered together on the 21st October, 2004 recognising that the industry needed its own association in the UK to push forward the development of the industry and to bring professionals together to develop the reputation of the industry and the people who work in it. The SMA-UK is committed to improving the industry for its members and for the clients they serve. The mission of the association is "To provide a service to search marketing individual professionals and companies by helping to establish a favourable operating environment, by providing a forum for discussion on non-competitive issues and by providing information to assist them in their business." The association also has also set itself key objectives to meet which centre around:
But the association also has an important ethos - that the association is for the members, belongs to the members and is driven by the members - and that is one reason why the democratic structure of the association has always been at the heart of its development. The original founders were Barry Lloyd of MakeMeTop who was the acting Chairman, Andy Atkins-Kruger of Web Certain acting Vice-Chairman, Simon Collingridge of Netsposure acting Treasurer, Paddy Bolger of Top Pile, Richard Gregory of Corporem Global, Edward Cowell of Neutralize, Colin Irwin of Spex Internet, Jason Cartwright of GCDM, Ammon Johns of Propellernet and Mike Grehan of Smart Interactive.
